Carpe Diem, our first travelling blog, was inspired by the premature deaths of a family member and an old friend in 2008. We decided that life really was too precious and that we would quit the corporate world & travel before the grim reaper decided to call on us. Our world has changed since we’ve seized the day and we have decided that work, in the 9 to 5 sense, is no longer for us. Ask yourself this, just how much money do I really need?
Life for us now has few restrictions, no time barriers, no alarm clock and providing we have the internet we can manage our affairs from anywhere in the world. Follow our new trip in our blog and find out what inspired the title.
Countries visited – Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia & Vietnam. Still travelling on a budget of around $40/day. The trip had an unplanned extension courtesy of The Ash Cloud.
Summer in the UK October 9, 2009 - Part way through Carpe Diem we decided that we had no intention of resuming our former lives. The world recession clearly has lots of losers but, fortunately, there are some winners like us. With The Bank of England slashing interest … Continue reading

Simples….. December 13, 2009 - Life here on Koh Chang (Elephant Island) is probably what it was on most Thai islands when tourism was in its infancy. The island has no cars, a few motor bikes and two narrow concrete roads that go north south … Continue reading

Boats, buses, taxis and dodgy immigration officials December 21, 2009 - The long journey south to Malaysia started with a bracing early morning ferry ride to Ranong. The rest of the day’s travelling to Hat Yai was to be by bus. Now the “guide” books all say that the bus should … Continue reading

Sunrise over Angkor Wat February 6, 2010 - The friendliness of the Cambodians continues to delight us; even the hawkers aren’t pushy and also give a little friendly banter. A total contrast to the hawkers on the beaches of Goa; Rottweilers when they smell fresh meat. Chatting about … Continue reading
Phnom Penh and The Killing Fields February 11, 2010 - Phnom Penh is a compact city, just as friendly as Siem Reap, but with a slightly more international feel about it. The Royal Palace, whilst not as grand as the one in Bangkok, is grand enough for most mortals. Its … Continue reading
Return to Vietnam Tet, Valentines Day and The Valley of Love February 21, 2010 - The bus journey from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City was much better than we anticipated including the border crossing that we thought would be such a pain.
